Alessandro Solbiati obtained diplomas in both piano with Eli Perrotta and composition with Sandro Gorli from the Milan Conservatoire, after having spent two years studying at the faculty of physics. In addition he studied with Franco Donatoni at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena for four years (1977-80). In the early 1980s he won various national and international competitions and, over the last 25 years has received commissions from the most important Italian and European institutions. Furthermore his music can be heard in the main festivals and many European and American radio stations. Among his favourite recordings, it is worth mentioning five monographic CDs for Stradivarius label, three of chamber music (Divertimento Ensemble di Milano, Ensemble Alternance of Paris, EOC of Lyon and Ex Novo Ensemble of Venice), one of symphonic works conducted by Daniel Kawka with the Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI of Turin and one with most of his piano pieces, played by Emanuela Piemonti e Alfonso Alberti. In April 2009 he made his debut in opera with “Il carro e i canti “, by Puŝkin, at Teatro Verdi of Trieste. A second opera, Leggenda, from Dostoevsky, was staged during the Opera season of Teatro Regio in Turin in September 2011, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda. A third opera, Il suono giallo, from texts of Kandinskij, has been performed in June 2015 at Teatro Comunale of Bologna, conducted by Marco Angius; for this Opera, Alessandro Solbiati has received in April 2016 the Premio Abbiati of Italian Musical Critics as "best first performance in Italy in 2015". Since 1995 he has been Professor of Composition at the Conservatorio “G.Verdi” in Milan.
